Sit, Talk by David, Kintsugi Workshop: Part I, The Art of Mending Broken Pottery
Kintsugi is Japanese for “golden joinery” and is the 15th century art of repairing broken pottery using lacquer dusted with powdered gold using the Zen ideals of Wabi-Sabi (a world-view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection). In this workshop, David will teach you the history, philosophy and practice of using traditional Japanese urushi sap and other materials to mend a broken ceramic item of your choosing.
David will be providing sample broken pieces for you to learn the steps on in the interest of time. You will then have just over a month’s time to mend a personal item at home and share with the group during part II on February 25th*. *Participation in the second night is optional.
